(Not sure if I am posting in the correct spot - sorry!)
My 7 week old son is pretty much a textbook/angel baby. He is very easy going and rarely, if ever, cries. The only time I really hear him being fussy is when I try and put him back to sleep at 530-600 am and I'm not even sure that's him being fussy but just awake and talking, or if he has a wet or dirty diaper. Here's my saga:
Day 2 on EASY:
3:51 am 2 minutes BF (realized after that he just needed to suckle - thought I learned my lesson..nope!)
6:20 am husband changed diaper as he was soaked and he (my son) does NOT like wet diapers.
6:31 am 25 min nursing and then diaper change due to wetness
7:25 am 25 min nap in stroller
and our days goes on at pretty much on a regular routine after that with a dream feed at 10:51 by my husband (this is his one bottle (formula) of the day)
Day 3 EASY:
1:32 am 7 min nursing (you think I would have learned this was just a need to suck)
4:54 am 7 min nursing (really, I thought he was hungry by his cues. It looked like classic rooting) and diaper change due to wetness. Put back in crib w/o a lot of activity or talking
5:22 am 14 min nursing (Seriously he showed all the classic cues and seemed very hungry). Attempted to get him to go back to sleep using the SHH/PAT method (which I thinks stimulates him instead of calms...is this possible)
Somewhere in this time he slept for maybe 30 min.
7:12 am wet diaper change
7:25 am 25 min nursing
And the day goes on from there smoothly with a dream feed at 11:53 (my husband said he tried at 11 and couldn't get him to wake (I explained you DON'T wake him) and then he clarified saying our son wouldn't suck so he tried later)
EASY Day 4 (today)
5:30 am 9 min of nursing
5:45 am Wet and dirty diaper change
6:32 am 8 min nursing again, classic signs of rooting
6:58 am 6 min nursing because he seemed like he was hungry and I tried his pacifier which he was against (he doesn't love his pacifier normally...not his thing)
7:30 am 10 min nursing with a 13 min nap afterwards
7:55 am wet diaper and then put in Pack N play (where he does his naps) and he closed his eyes for a bit
Okay...the questions. Is he waking in the morning because he is hungry or because it's his pattern? Or is 530ish the time likes to wake? (My side of the family wakes early) Do I need to try and wake him an hour earlier and then put him back to sleep (as Tracy suggests in her last book)? When I feed him (and I admit this morning was rather crazy with his feedings) it's because he is displaying the signs of hunger as listed in Tracy's first book. However, I know this morning he was also tired (based on his cues) in addition to hungry.
I would like him to sleep til 630-700 every morning, How do I get him to do that? I'm up by this time - should I just accept that he wants to get up that early, too?
We cluster feed at night (usually at 530 and 730 or 6 and 8 pm) and then his DF is 2 ounces of formula. My husband has tried o offer more but he won't suck after that.
When he wakes at the 5ish time in the am he is ALL smiles and is giggling.
Thanks!
