When do they drop the mantra?

I was lying in bed tonight and DD hits the end of a sleep cycle or whatever they do.  Brief wail, then starts her mantra cry.  Probably had rolled away from her lovie, hence the wail.   ;)  I got to wondering when do LO's stop the mantra cry?  Just curious as I realized that I am going to miss hearing it.  DH and I were discussing her b-day before this, so getting a bit nostalgic about her growing up.    :-\

Good question. My older dd who is 5 never had a mantra because she sucked he thumb.  My 23 month old  still cries out during certain sleep transitions and then has a settling type of cry but it is not identical to her old "mantra" cry.  I didn't really think about that until now.  I would imagine there's probably a pretty big variability on that between children.

oh the mantra cry :'(... i miss it too!

I can't remember exactly but I know that todlerhood it hard here... once ds learnt to stand up, *talk* (that is mama, papa), and in general realized he was a little boss... all the babyhood (inlcuding mantra cry that became a demanding shout) was gone.

Now i'm all nostalgic too!! but it's such a fun and challenging time too! you're gonna love it!

Oh my goodness.  I am going to try and "enjoy" while I can!!!

Do you remember the stretching and grunting noises they made as newborns????  That used to freak dh out so much, thinking something was wrong.
I miss that too!
