9 months, naps too short = overtired
« on: August 06, 2006, 01:58:20 am »
My son is 9 months old and having separation anxiety, I think.  He all of a sudden started waking up at night and crying because he couldn't fall back asleep.  He also would throw a fit every time I put him down for a nap.  He didn't know how to fall alseep without me holding him.  After much effort, he now goes to sleep at night fine and can get back to sleep on his own when he wakes up.  His morning nap, 45 minutes goes fine with little trouble.  But his 2 hour afternoon nap is now only 45 minutes, and then he's overtired and cranky.  I try to put him back down again but he cries uncontrollably, and I can't get him to sleep.  I'm not familiar with how to extend naps.  Can somebody help?  I've tried waiting to see if he'll fall back asleep, but he just gets more and more upset, he doesn't go back to sleep.  And I've tried going in, giving him a pacifier and rubbing his back.  He still gets more and more upset if I don't pick him up and take him downstairs.  Please help!  My baby is so tired all afternoon and evening!  I moved his bedtime up, and that helps, but he still needs a longer nap.
