Transition? Need some advice...
« on: August 10, 2006, 13:28:35 pm »
Just need a little help here it is sooo frustrating when everything goes perfect for months and then suddelny it is all over tha place :(

Here our routine as it was and worked for 2 months:

6.30 awake, bottle
08.00 breakfast cereal and fruit

09.00 nap (1.5-2 hours)

12.00 lunch (meal)

01.30 nap (1-1.5 hours)

03.30 snack (cereal and fruit or veg)

06. bedtime routine (bath, bottle, brushing teeth, bed)
6.30 down for bed

Now he goes down at 7pm, wakes up at five and his two naps are 20 minutes! Always tired with red eyes :(

Is he ready for one nap maybe?

BTW, he doesn't have a dummy or other props, always naps in his cot for months now and the wind down routine is: wee drink of water, curtains down, room dark, wee cuddle and in bed, falls asleep on his own.

Any advice? Please?

He's probably not ready for one nap yet (although you never know) but more likely just needs more A times. Have you tried one short nap and one long nap? I might try one nap from 9:30-10:30 and second nap from say 1:30-3:30 and bedtime at 7.

That is a good point, he definately needs more A-time but because a day has got 24 hours and these don't stretch it is a bit hard. When he gets up at 5 he is unable to make it till 9.30 though but I will try :)

Thanks for the advice... I am soooo frustrated cause it all worked so well :(

Delaying his morning nap should help push the morning wakings back as well. Don't go to 9:30 right away - but maybe start by delaying it by 15 more minutes every 3 days. I know it's hard to work naps and A time in to 24 hours - but that is why one of the naps usually has to be a shorter one - and eventually when you run out of room (or your LO refuses a nap) you go to one!
