10 month no longer sleeping
« on: August 16, 2006, 16:53:47 pm »
Hi there,

Please excuse this if somewhere this has been answered, but I am so tired and I have tried everything that i no longer remember what I did!  Any ideas to get my little guy back on track would be great.

How old is your child? 10 months

What’s his/her daily routine? up at 630-7 am, bottle playtime, nap, bottle, solid food, playtime, nap, bottle, solid food, playtime, short nap, playtime, bottle and then bed at 8 pm.

What’s nap routine? around 8:30-9am and then around 12:30-1pm each is 1.5 hrs long and then a short nap at 5:30pm (30 mins).

How long are naps?1.5 hrs

What's bedtime routine? Time?Change into PJs, bottle and cuddle, quiet time and into bed.  Bed is around 8pm

Do you bottle or breastfed??Bottle

How much? or how long?5-8 ounces for about 15 min.  He is slowly weaning himself from the bottle

How many wakes per night? 4-7

What’s your LO like when waking at night? Full on screaming

How long is he/she up? Goes down as soon as I come in and settle him

When you go to him/her is she fussing or crying? Crying                          Or is it a mantra cry? No

What have you tried to settle?? He settles quickly, but he is standing in his crib so I lay him down and cover him and then he is quiet

What do you do for A time and how long is it? Crawling and playing on the floor 1 hour at a time roughly

Are there developmental issues such as teething or milestones? He was sleeping nicely and then 2.5 months ago had 6 teeth come in quickly and hasn't slept again.  He started crawling 2 weeks ago.

Do they have a prop? If so what is it? He has a soother, but can find it and put it back in his mouth.

Do they have a lovie? I have tried to intorduce one, but not overly interested.

It seems that he has lost the ability to put himself back to sleep during the night.  He was doing this previously very nicely and slept from 8pm to 6 am.  He now wakes up and immediately stands up in his crib and screams.  Also his naps/bedtime are more difficult to get him to sleep as well. We have tried to comfort him and leave the room for a few minutes, but he just gets more worked up. He stands up in the crib all the time and when I lay him down he thinks it is a game and stands right back up again.  PU/PD does help and we do use that to get him to sleep initially when he is upset.    How do we get him to stay asleep !!  HELP

I am not sure what to try :(

I forgot to mention that he has not been sleeping through the night now for 2 months.

Robynne,

I think it's time for an overhaul of your routine. At 10 months your LO should have two naps a day and not have the evening catnap. He should also be having A time of much longer than 1 hour. Am I correct in reading that he's still having 4 bottles/day? Most are down to three or even two by 10 months. Is he taking small amounts at each bottle feed?

There are routines listed in the EASY forum for each age range, so you might take a look there for info., but I would go for something like this -

7:00am wake and bottle
8:00 breakfast (or breakfast and then bottle, whichever your prefer)
10:00ish nap
11:30/12 wake and lunch/bottle
3:00ish nap
5:00 wake and dinner
7:30 begin bedtime routine, bottle
8:00 at latest bed
