Newborn grunts, kicks, squirms while sleeping - normal?
« on: September 07, 2006, 18:20:18 pm »
My 2 week old dd is so noisy when sleeping - she grunts, squeals, kicks her legs (inside the swaddle), etc.  At first, I thought she must need to burp or something, but after 2 weeks it seems she just does this while asleep (and while going to sleep) no matter what.  Initially, I would go in to her room in response to the noises only to find her asleep.  Now, I'm just trying to hang back and not go in unless she starts crying or gets really loud.  It bothers me though because it seems like she is restless and not getting good sleep.  Is this normal for some newborns?

I'm no expert, but as far as my experience has seen, this is normal.  I tried having my first sleep in our room in a cot by our bed but that lasted about 2 hours cause he was so noisy it made me nuts.  Now with number 2 I have to force myself to turn the monitor down so I can't hear those noises case I'm so stressed that she's waking up.  Hope that helps!

Yes, I believe that is normal.  My ds used to grunt and make loud noises when he was sleeping.  We can't even remember when it stopped.   ??? ???

With DD1 in particular Dh & I used sit up in bed & giggle. It was like sharing a bedroom with a baby piglet!!!

Yep, DS use to make those annoying sounds as well.  I think it's their way of helping them stay asleep.

My dd did the same.  I assumed it was gas, and gave her relief drops before bed and it seemed to help.  However, she did wake a little more than what you're saying your dd does.

Our doctor said it was normal.  Ds spent most of the first month sleeping with his feet up in the air.  ::)
