I need all wonderful moms to respond please
« on: August 20, 2006, 20:02:36 pm »
I have a 3 month old spirited little one. My question to  all of you is should I start implementing the EASY routine first and do that for a couple days and then try to conquer our sleeping problems. I don't want to overwhelm my LO. I think trying to do everything all at once might be too much for him and probably for me.

What do you think?

Looking forward to all your wonderful advice.

Julie

Hi Julia,

For us, when we started EASY when my LO was a little over 3 months, we implemented the routine first in hopes that the routine may help fix his sleep problems.  Once we had our routine almost set, then we started on his nap problems and night wakings.  I agree that you shouldn't do everything at the same time that would be too overwhelming for your LO and you.  I think once you have implemented your EASY routine, then you can look at how you can change or tweak your routine that may help with your LO's sleeping problems.  As you will find out, every board will ask you to post your schedule/routine to help with any problems you maybe having with your LO.  So you might as well start with the routine first.

Julie,

Welcome!!

My ds is very spirited and I was going crazy the first 6 weeks. I had read BW while pregnant but for some reason ( I blame mommy brain  :P ) I forgot about the book until I stumbled onto the webpage. Dh and I started implementing EASY right away and saw lot's of improvements.  Spirited babies especially need the structure and predictability of EASY to help them out.

My recommendation is to tackle his wind-down and sleep first. Then tackle feedings, which should be easier once he's better rested.

I agree with Mel that if you could post his routine for us we can help you out as you go along.  ;)

Look forward to hearing from you

What is wrong with me?  I'm sorry Julie, I typed your name as Julia earlier.  This is the second time I've done that and I don't know why I keep doing that.
Sorry.

Hi again ladies,

Thought I would post his schedule for you all to see and give me advice and pointers as to what to do etc.

Wake 7:00
Eat 7:15
Activity 7:30-8:15
Sleep 8:30 - for 30 minutes if I'm lucky

Wake 9-9:15
eat 9:45
Activity 10-10:30
Sleep 10-:30-11 again if lucky

Wake 11:30
Eat 12:15
Activity 12:30-1:30
Sleep 1:30-3:30  - usually has a long nap in afternoon because he never sleeps in the am

Wake 3:30-4
eat 4-4:15
activity 4:30-500
Sleeps usually power nap about 6:00
I can't get him to sleep usually until bedtime.

Eat 6:30/7
bath 6:45
bedtime 7:15-7:30 again if lucky

Tonight I tried to cluster feed, activity and tried to shush/pat to sleep. It took me almost 2 hours to get him to sleep and he only fell asleep on my shoulder after that 2 hours.

I am at a lose as to what to do regarding the sleep. How are you supposed to stay on the Easy routine when he won't sleep.

Help,

Julie

Julie,

Remember that EASY isn't written in stone, you can try to extended his A time in the morning and see how he does. Just by 15 or 20 mins and lets see  ;)

julie,
i think your lo is overtired...that would explain why the short naps in the a.m.  it kinda looks like you are doing the A time of a 4 hour EASY, but you are feeding every 2.5-3 hrs.  your loved one should be on a solid 3 hr EASY, and the sleep will follow!  ::)
strive to have two longer naps (one am and one pm) and one catnap.  once you find the groove it will be so EASY!

Samantha
**trust me: my lo just recently went thru with dropping her catnap!  boy, it has been a stressful few weeks!  we are back on track now, and everything is running smooth!  you will know exactly what i mean once you get there!  good luck!  EASY really will be EASY :) ;)
