need advice: Please- tried P.U/P.D- Dosent HELP!
« on: August 23, 2006, 14:56:12 pm »

Hi
I have a 5 month old boy who always had a problem with naps. He wont sleep more than 40 minutes during the day. I have been trying P.U/P.D for close to 3 weeks, he falls asleep in the begining after 20 min, however he wakes up after 40 min- and dosent fall back asleep- i do the technique until his next feeding time.
i tried to pat his back after 30 min in order to try to get him through another sleep cycle- but that dosent work as well-
i am helpless- its been to long- i dont know what to do......
please help!!

I can understand your frustration! We have been on 4hr EASY for 3 months, yet pu/pd doesn't always work with DD.  I finally figurered out that she needs more time to relax before she takes her nap and that seems to stretch her nap time from 45min to 1.5 hr or 2 hr.  More tire she seems longer relaxing time she needs.

Have you considered the wake to sleep technique instead?  I was not successful w/ pu/pd.  I tried the w2s.  Worked sometimes.  Went back to it.  Has been working a lot better.

thanks for your responses
my daily routine is:
Wake up at 6:30-7:00 am
E- 7:00
A-7:20
S: I begin wind down at around 8:30'ish and he falls asleep at 8:50- 9:00
however he wakes up at 9:30'ish - i try wake to sleep- but it dosent work and then i try Pu/pd but that failed to...i do this until the next feed at 11 (somtimes i give up at 10:30)

E-11:00
A-11:20
S-12:45-1:00- here he somtimes sleeps a full 2 hrs (not often)

E-3:00
A-3:20
S-4:30-5:00 - catnap (30-40 min)

E- 6:00
A- play a little, bath, wind down
S- 7:30

i give him DF at 10:30 and he usually wakes up only once at night and falls back to sleep.

hi stacy
I usually put him down at 8:30 in order for him to fall asleep by 9:00- i tried putting him to sleep at 9:00 and he would only fall asleep about 20-30 min later....
regarding the wake to sleep- is that patting his back around 30 min after he falls to sleep? because if so, i have done that and still try doing this- however instead of putting him bacck to sleep it wakes him up...it only worked twice.
thanks

So...it hasnt been working...i tried the wake to sleep but that seems to wake him up completly. I dont know what im doing wrong!
i then try P.u/Pd and after about an hout he falls asleep - which gives him about 20 min to sleep before his next feed.....
i extended his A time by 20 min- so now he is awake for 2 hrs and 20 min before i settle him in the bed.....but still only 30-40 min naps......
any recommendations??
