LO crying when being put in high chair!
« on: August 26, 2006, 21:29:23 pm »
LO used to love his high chair! Now he's fighting it all the time. He usually settles once we start feeding, but I can't figure out what is causing him to act like this all of a sudden.

Anyone else have a LO who does/did this? How did you fix it? (my LO rarely fusses or cries, so I'm just confused why this thing would make him do it!)

Is he mobile yet? I know Tyler went through a phase right before he started crawling and every so often after that where he would fight being restrained...sometimes the high chair, sometimes the car seat, sometimes the stroller. If he calms down after you start feeding him, your best bet is to ignore it for now and wait for it to pass. If you aren't already, it might help to have his food all ready to go so you'll have something to distract him quickly (sometimes being silly or singing a song can work too). Do your best not to react to it at all, it will pass!

He's just starting to get mobile - he learned how to roll over about 2 weeks ago, and is working hard to learn how to crawl (got the lifting up bum and wiggling it part down pat!  ;D ). I think you're right - he's hating being restrained. He doesn't even want to be in his exercauser (dubbed the "O.S.S." -overstimulation station - by DH) much anymore.

I'm doing the singing silly songs and making funny face bit pretty good. He'll stop fussing/crying briefly to laugh then start up again. Guess we'll just hope it passes soon!  ::)

Is it also possible that his leg got hurt a bit or something when he was put in? Maybe he's got some kind of negative association  ???

His leg hasn't gotten hurt in the high chair that I know of. It HAS gotten hurt twice (due to a stupid mommy) in his swing, but he still goes in there whenever I let him!
