9 month old still having 3 naps a day
« on: September 02, 2006, 13:41:57 pm »
Hi – a newbie here!
I would really appreciate some advice on my 9 mth olds nap routine as it is starting to tie me to the house as I can only be out for max 2 hours.
His routine is:
Wake up: 6:30
Nap 1: 7:30-8:45
Nap 2: 11:00-12:15
Nap 3: 15:00-16:00
Bed: 19:00

I know he is having too may naps but he shows sleepy signs at 2 hours, and if he misses his sleep window he is so difficult to settle (we have had up to 9 hours of wakefulness in the past!).
Any thoughts gratefully received!
May x

Thanks! I know I sound ungrateful when he is a good sleeper, but as he'll only sleep in his cot this means I'm tied to the house. A longer wake period would be great!

I agree with Stacy... you are lucky, BUT I know that you want to get out and about a bit more....  Have you tried extending 1st awake time to about 8.45/9am...  he could then maybe take a 30 min catnap at 12 and then his regular afternoon nap??  ??  Just a thought! :P :-\

Sounds like you know his rhythym. I would go with it. My DD was so like that. Still have to watch the windows and she's 2. DS however is 9 months and doing one massive sleep and has started to resist the 2nd  nap from time to time (might have to try and shorten the first nap) Things keep changing so I wouldn't worry. Before you know it the awake time increases and then you wonder where all the sleeps gone. Maybe look at it like it gives you time to recharge through the day.

just to let you know DD is 15 months and STILL has two naps. (although she is starting to transition to one). if the day sleep is not affecting his night sleep then he is not ready to drop to two

Thanks all for the advice. I have been trying to push back the morning nap the last 2 days but it is just making him cranky. I guess you just have to do what they want! May x
