I need help!!!
« on: September 04, 2006, 14:37:19 pm »
Hi there, I am the proud mommy of a 5 month old little girl.  I am having great difficulty getting her to sleep for naps.  For the last two weeks I have been working on getting her to sleep for her naps without me bouncing her as a prop.  I am trying to use 4-hr easy as a routine and using a consistent naptime routine and shh/pat for soothing to sleep. For the first few days there was improvement, but then we hit a standstill and now things are steadily getting worse. She screams and flails around her crib when I am trying to do shh/pat and the Pu/pd just sends her completely over the edge! When she does go to sleep she usually only sleeps about 30 minutes and return to sleep strategies have failed. I am hoping to connect with some support to guide me through correcting our sleep problems. Please help me, I am reaching the end of my rope!!!

SAME problem here. And my daughter is about the same age...a week older. Is she swaddled or have you broken her of that? We are trying to break our little one. Probably should have done it sooner but she wouldn't nap any other way.

It's terrible. And night time sleep is starting to become disrupted as well. I fight to get her to sleep...taking sometimes 40 mins to pu/pd pat/shoosh, let her lay whimpering. None of it seems to work. I'm glad to know someone else is having similar troubles.

Wonder what it could be. :(

How long is your activity time?  Sometimes too much awake time or too little awake time can cause short naps.

My guy turned 19 weeks today. And we seem to have the same problem. Some days he'll do one really long 1 hr to 2 hr nap then 30 to 45 mintues for the next 2. Yesterday he was awake from 11am to 2:40pm (nothing I did would he go down for a nap), then back up at 3:30pm. One thing that has helped me.... he has a vicks humidifier in his room and that makes "white noise" also I start a mobile that plays ocean sounds for about 10 minutes then turns off. He doesn't watch the mobile (he naps on his belly), but sometimes when I turn the mobile back on once he wakes after 30 minutes he'll go back to sleep. not always.
