Suggestions to setting up the bedtime
« on: September 08, 2006, 06:15:33 am »
Hi all,
My DD is 6 months old and no longer wishes to take her third nap. she usually takes naps at 9:30 and 13:30, a total of over 3+ hours. She wakes up at around 3-ish from the second nap and becomes very tired at 6PM. If she goes to sleep before 6:30PM she's up at 5AM.. If we can stretch it to a little after 7 she'll wake up at around 6:15.
Do you think we should postpone her bedtime? Is 11 hours enough sleep at her age (she used to sleep from 7PM to 8AM with one feeding, now she's sleeping through)?
Should I change her napping hours so that she wakes up later than 3PM from her second nap?
Please suggest.
Thanks,
Tuty

I think your DD is doing pretty well actually. Its tricky when they drop the cat nap. Keep bedtime between 6:30-7pm so she doesn't overtire. 11 hours is great! a lot of 6 month olds don't sleep that long. Your doing a great job, keep it up.

Hi Tuty,
My DD is also 6 month and has been refusing her 3rd cat-nap.  I know she is tired so I just put her in her swing until her Dad comes home, this way I can cook and she will have some energy left to play with her Dad.  Before she skips her 3rd nap, she goes to bed no later than 7:30pm but now we try to make it around 6:30pm and she still wakes up around the same time-6:30AM, but we don't pick her up until 7AM.

By the way, your DD naps longer than mine, lucky you!! ;)

Like you said, I am thinking about stretching the 2nd activity time a bit longer making the 2nd nap a bit later like 2pm or 2:30pm so the 3rd activity stretch is not so long.

Well, actually after the past week, I think it is forming into a habbit of waking up at 5:00AM. Last night, she went to bed a little after 7 and still woke up at 5.
She usually talks to herself until 5:30 and then starts calling us. If I feed her at 5:30 than she'd sleep from 6 to 7 and start her day. So perhaps this is considered to be her first nap(?). I know she doesn't have to eat at 5:30 (she's eating a lot during the day and can last until at least 7:30), but I don't know how else I can stretch her night sleep.
I'm afraid that I'm creating this dependency of feeding to go back to sleep.
