When Do I start 4 Hour EASY
« on: September 23, 2006, 01:22:08 am »
I know the 4 hour EASY begins at four months, give or take a few weeks, and my LO is three months and a week. Lately, he has begun to be not very interested in his last feeds of the day, specifically the four and seven o'clock feeds. This has happened only a couple of times and not always both feeds on the same day. He's just happily looking about and cooing up a storm. I worried his night time sleep would be all screwed up, but it was no different-- one wake up or none at all. Is it time to begin moving towards a four hour routine? He's been steadily on a three hour routine with short naps (forty-fivers).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Shannon

Hi there!

You could try going to a 3.5 hr schedule and see if that makes any difference, esp for the last couple of feeds.  I found that once I was on a 4 hr routine Carter's naps ironed themselves out and he started taking longer naps.

Has your lo had the infamous 12 week growth spurt yet?  You might have lots of milk on hand that is keeping him nice and full!  He also might be starting to notice the world around him a bit more.  See if this same pattern continues for a few more days which will truly indicate that he is able to go longer between feeds!

HTH  :)

Yea, it is happening more. Today, the second feed resembled more a snack despite it being three hours since his last feed. And his day naps have changed. It's harder to get him down.

As for the growth spurt, I "prepared" for it by pumping my breasts regularly a week before, so I would have mroe breastmilk when it happened. The result was he didn't beat my nipples up this time around which is, of course, nice, but on the other hand, it wasn't as noticeable when he went through the growth spurt since I had the milk he needed. I think he had it only because he went through a phase where he feed much more in the mornings and at the four o'clock feed, about 6 or more ounces. Plus, he got bigger. It was just so much smoother that I question if it actually happened.

I think I'll move him to 3.5 hours this week and see how it goes.

Thanks for the response!

Just wanted to wish you luck!

I found that preparing for growth spurts helped me immensely but I know what you mean about not being sure if they really happened!  That just means you were very well prepared!  :)
