Help with new routine
« on: September 28, 2006, 17:38:01 pm »
Hello my DD is 7 months now and she´s been having a hard time taking 1.5 hr naps after 2.5 hr of A time.  Her usual routine would look like this:

E 5:30 am (BF)
E 7:00 am (Solids)
A
S 7:30 am (1.5 hr)

E 9:30 am (BF)
E 11:00 (Solids)
A
S 11:30 am (1.5 hr)

E 1:00 pm (BF)
A
S 3:30 pm (45 m)

E 5:00 pm (BF)
E 6:00 pm (Solids)
A Bath
S 7:30 pm

Dreamfeed at 11 pm

This is more or less her daily routine it might change depending on the time she wakes which varies between 5 and 7 am

But now after 1 hr of sleep she wakes fully satisfied with her nap.  So I thought it might be time to drop the catnap, and at this moment we are working on it extending her A time 10 min longer every few days.  But my question is that when she is finally able to have 3 hr of A time,  will she be having 1.5 hr naps? If so will she be on 4.5 hr EASY? Is there such a thing as that, or how does it work?

Hi,

At 7 / 8 months our DS was on 2 naps a day, they fitted in somewhere between 9:00 and the second one at around 14:00 in the afternoon.

Our schedule looked something like this:-

E - 7:00 bottle / Cereal - always had them straight after each other
A
S - 9:00 - 10:30

A
E - 11:30 - Lunch
A
E - 1:30 / 2:00 - Bottle (depending on how tired)
S - 2:30 - 4:00

E - 4:45 - Dinner
A - Bath etc
E - 6:30 - Bottle
S - 7:00

It is not unheard of for a lo to put themselves on a 4.5 Hour EASY.

Hi there!

I agree with Paula, but I also wanted to mention that at this age you could start to drop the dreamfeed.  Crazy as it mauy sound, after a certain age the dreamfeed interrupts their nighttime sleep and can cause night wakings.  ;)

Also to add to what Beca has said,

You may find that after dropping the dreamfeed, your lo will start taking more oz during the day.

Below is a link, on how to stop the dreamfeed.

Good luck - let us know how you get on.

Thank you, so she should be nursing every 4 hours right?

It is entirely up to you.  If our DD has 4 feeds a day, then yes, but if she has 3 then you could look at a schedule that was similar to ours at 7 months.

my DD is 2 weeks old and her wake time is usually about 45 minutes (including the feed time!).  Is this normal?  After being awake for 45-1 hr at most she'll usually nap for about 2 hours.  Then I have to wake her up for her next feed.  I know she's young and still needs a lot of sleep but just wondering if anyone else's baby is similar.  Thanks!  love this site!!!

Hi Cindy,

Welcome to the boards and congrats on your DD  ;D

At 2 weeks, I think your A time is normal - some lo's have shorter.

Your nap time is fantastic and definitely agree that you wake your lo to feed.

You are doing great   :-*
