Swaddling
« on: October 11, 2006, 07:50:36 am »
Hello, what age should a liitle one be swaddled until?
My boy is 10 weeks, & I find I still have to swaddle him to help settle, but then during his sleep he manages to fight his way out of it & wakes himself up. Any tips?
Also, how comes he manages to sleep ok in his pram & car seat without being swaddled & doesn't wake himself?

Thanks
Jx

Hello,

there's no 'set' time when you have to stop swaddling. Tracy said around 3 months, but we didn't stop until ds was around 9 months :o. At your lo's age, I'd have thought it'd still be a great help to him. Have you tried a more secure swaddle, like the Aussie swaddle, or a miracle blanket?

The pram and car seat sleeps rely on the motion, which soothe him back to sleep. They are not such refreshing sleeps, though, as all that motion will keep waking him, then re-settling him, so he won't go into such a deep sleep as he will in his cot.

HTH :)

Thank you.

I got him a swaddling blanket, but for some reason he didn't used to like it. I have tried it again this morning for his nap, not sure if it was a coincidence, but he fell alseep in 3 minutes!

aaah, I understand now about the pram- so not such a good idea to take him out in it to make him fall alseep if he is really tired & won't settle in his cot!

Thanks again
