Need help winding down spirited 9 month old!
« on: October 12, 2006, 14:06:15 pm »
Any ideas on how to wind down a spirited 9 month old for naps?  He had a nice lull where he became textbook/angel before he got mobile but now that he is crawling and pulling up like a madman, he is wound up to no end.  Since starting BW techniques at 2 months, the part of his wind down that has stuck is walking quietly around the upstairs rooms while I sing softly to him for about 5 min before bed.  Prior to this, he sits on my lap for 10 min or so while we watch a Baby Einstein so that he stops moving and can start to relax a bit.  Problem is, he is still so hyper when he goes down - even though I know I'm catching his sleep window!
Any suggestions would be appreciated!  Oh, and walks are starting to get dicey as an idea - we woke up to snow this morning in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada!  :o

Hi there! When my DD was 9 months and getting mobile we would go in her room and play quietly with just the lamp on for about 30 minutes. We would look at books or even if she was crawling around and pulling up and least there was not much else going on. Then she would be ready to do the actual wind down - sit and read a couple of books, sing a couple of songs and then straight to bed. However, she still had her paci, so I think that helped her wind down.

I might also suggest not doing the video. That might actually be stimulating your LO. Instead let her crawl around in her room and work off her energy. Hope that helps!
