« on: October 08, 2006, 21:45:08 pm »
HI
we have a 4 mnth old LO, he is on a 4 hr EASY for last two weeks, had been doing well with naps however today, every nap was 45 minutes or less..which is making me lose my mind!! I thought that things were going to get easier with the shh/pat and schedule in place rather than worse.........any advice??

Just when you think you have it figured out they go and change things on you again! He could be h aving a bit of a growth spurt in which case nap times go a bit mad. What does he schedule look like? We  had a similiar problem, we thought we had it sussed and for a few weeks everything was fine but then he would decide he wanted change!

well, he is on a four hour schedule, i do try  to watch his activity and his sleep cues as well. I did wake to sleep this morning and it actually worked however now his catnap is no more than 20-30 minutes and he wakes up screaming.

My lo is nearly 5 mo and just when I thought we were done with the 45 min catnaps, she gave it to me yesterday (not sure what today will hold). She has been doing well for the last 4 days so I was sure this will be our set routine but yeah  ???.

Has anything occured in the last few days to change things? With mine, we went to in-laws house a few days ago and she missed the catnap - believe it or not, I think this is what caused the overtiredness and it all surfaced yesterday.

A lot of babies seem to go through a spell of 45 min naps, right around 4 months. There are a few posts in the Naps FAQ https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?board=86.0 about short naps. You'll also find a lot of other posts about 45 min naps, just paging through the naps board.

FWIW, our DS started taking 45 min naps at 3.5 mos, and - no matter how we adjusted his A time, or anything else - it was only around 6 mos that his naps finally improved. Until then, I tried to be nearby around the 45 min mark, and soothe him back to sleep before he woke all the way. Eventually, his a.m. nap started lasting longer, then his afternoon nap improved.
