What time do you start your day?
« on: November 04, 2006, 02:57:51 am »
We're still trying to figure out a good routine for our daughter (8.5wks), but what do you do if say, you want the first feed to be at 6:30a, but she wakes up hungry at 5 or 5:30a?  Do I feed then and again in an hour?

thanks,
maddy

When my LO woke early, we would use PU/PD to extend her sleep time.  I would also increase the amount of food offered during the day and DF to ensure that enough was given so that my LO did not wake due to hunger.

I would hesitate to give food at 5am, then again an hour later because it may encourage snacking.

I agree with PP in the feeding an hour later, however I would also be reluctent to not feed at 5 at your LO's age. Is there a reason you don't want to start your day at 7:30-8am at this stage? I think you may find things settle better if you try for a later start of day for the time being. When she is older and can go longer between feeds you can move your start of day earlier.
In fact at 8.5 weeks our start of day was 8:30 as my LO woke at 5:30 and had her first feed of the day 3 hours later.

I definitely agree with Kimberly.

When our DS was that age, he would wake for a feed around 5am, and we would treat that as a night feed, feed him and put him straight back to bed.  He would then go straight back to sleep and would then wake for a feed again at 8ish.

This was so much better for us, as it enabled his mumma to get a few more hours of sleep  ;)

we also had a 5am feed and it meant the day started at 8am.  at the time I thought it was strange but now I wish she had stuck with it  :D   sounds like you're doing great

Hi Maddy,
My LO is 7 weeks and I have the same question you do.  He wakes at 5:00, but I would love it to be 6:00.  Let me know if you find something that works please!!!

I wanted to start my day at 6-6:30am so I can get to work on time.  I would love to sleep in more, if I could.

have you tried giving half of what she usually eats?  and then putting her back down for another 1.5 hours and feed again at 6:30 or 6:45?

at 7 weeks, she may be trying to drop one of her night feedings so she's pushing back that feeding to about 5.  but i would go ahead and feed until she's ready to drop it all together.  i remember my LO did that - ate at 2, then 3, then 4, etc. until she didn't need to eat at night anymore.
