I can't get my breastfed baby to dreamfeed
« on: November 06, 2006, 03:52:16 am »

Any tips?  I tried a DF, she didn't wake or open up, so I tried 10-15 min later with the same results.  Do I keep trying until she does or i wake her up trying?  Also, since she's breastfed, she pretty much always has a dirty diaper, so should I change her diaper (this would probably wake her) and then feed her and put her back to sleep?  I would have to change her after the DF anyhow.

Thanks in advance!
Maddy

My dd would never wake for the df either (also was bf at that point).  However, I wanted to give her that feed, so I woke her.  Being a very sleepy baby, it took about 30 mins for me to get her awake enough to feed her, and then she was a slow eater.  I didn't have to do a diaper change at that point, I don't think, but if your lo needs it you should change her.  Anyway, I really liked doing the df b/c I stopped night feeds with dd at 8 weeks (she never woke for this either, had to wake her) and I was glad to know she had that extra feeding to hold her over through the night.

Same here - I couldn't get Ewan to have the DF from the breast - so I pump and give it to him in a bottle which he takes no problem, could be an option if you don't mind him having the bottle.

love

Marie

Marie's idea sounds good, and depending on how old ur LO is ; I think a bottle every now and then is good, so they get used to having it.
I def wouldnt wake LO as then it wouldnt be a DF
