Thank you ladies.....
« on: December 04, 2006, 14:57:39 pm »
I posted recently on when does shush pat become independent sleep and I just wanted to say thank you for the replies as we have finally got there. My DS is almost 6 months old and it's so great to know that when it's time for his nap, I can put him in his grobag, give him a cuddle and put him in his cot and leave him. I had got so used to trying to settle him for so long it's such a relief. From the replies I realise now that I was jumping the gun a bit with trying to get him to sleep and not giving him enough of a wind down. Whereas now he is happy to settle himself and drift off on his own.
Now that I've got the going to sleep sorted any tips on how to make him nap for longer than 30 - 40 minutes?
Thanks again for all the help,
Áine

I'd visit the 45 minute naps posts at the top, but W2S is a good method to try.  Also, remember to look at your A time.  One that is too long or too short can lead to short naps.  Also, if they are tired from a short nap, the A time after the next feed should be shorter to allow for a longer nap (to make up for last one so that they can catch up).  This is a fairly common problem as that is the length of the sleep cycle and they are may just be having trouble transitioning from one cycle to next.  Also, careful to "rescue" them if it is only a mantra cry.  Hope this helps.  Keep reading posts for good ideas.  The W2S is better explained in the FAQ's.
