Help-10week old behaviour-sleep
« on: November 26, 2006, 22:06:27 pm »
HI

I am new to this forum, i was on the search of some help, and found this site

DH is 10weeks, night sleeps are great, but he wont go down before 9pm, will sleep to appr 2, for a feed, thent til about 6. then will sleep til appr 7.30ish.. During the day i have no set routine as i am not always home, but when i am, i try to do the play, feed, sleep routine.

DS wont sleep any longer then 40mins in his cot, i am finding it soooo exhausting...  I have given hima  dummy, and try settling him this way, he then wakes up after appr 40mins, and no matter what i do , i cant get him back to sleep.. i have him wrapped up tightly, and some music on low, but i just cant get him back to sleep

Why is it so easy at night, but so hard during the day...

Hello!!! you are not alone. My 10 week old dd is exactly the same, almost to the dot.  She sleeps fine at night, but during the day its back to the 35-40 mintue nap routine and she is only happy awake for only about 1 hour.  I try to take her out in the sling (she will cocoon in that and sleep for up to 1 hour sometimes longer) and nap with her during the day - that will extend her naps as well.

If you have any other ideas please send them along... I am going to the dr today to see if it might be silent reflux that is waking her (I am desperate for a solution).  Only other advice is that it will pass....

I'd visit the 45 minute naps posts at the top, but W2S is a good method to try.  Also, remember to look at your A time.  One that is too long or too short can lead to short naps.  Also, if they are tired from a short nap, the A time after the next feed should be shorter to allow for a longer nap (to make up for last one so that they can catch up).  This is a fairly common problem as that is the length of the sleep cycle and they are may just be having trouble transitioning from one cycle to next.  Also, careful to "rescue" them if it is only a mantra cry.  Hope this helps.  Keep reading posts for good ideas.  The W2S is better explained in the FAQ's.

seb, could you post your routine for a typical day?  It might help us figure out if the short naps are due to a problem with your day/overtiredness.  Are you currently on an EASY routine?  If so what routine are you doing (ie 3hr)?  Do you breatsfeed or bottle feed?  how much is he eating (oz or time?)? If BF, does he take one or both breasts?

ETA: Sorry I've noticed that you have 2 posts on the same topic in this thread and you have gotten some good advice there... disregard :)
