Hey sherry, we're going through the exact same thing with my 15 mo, except I'm fighting the transition! Maybe I should just go with it: feel like I've tried everything else! (as you did: moving naps/cutting them short etc)
Have just put her down now,1020ish  (was supposed to be 10 but she cried and I had to pat her to sleep) and am doing a week of waking her after only 30mins. If this doesn;t work then I'm going to try for the 1 nap i think: we have the same night wakings and early mornings, when every day is so different it's hard to work out a solution isn't it?
at least it's just a phase!
how have days 8+ gone?
Laura

Rosiesmum - at 11/12 months, mine started doing similar things but I then realised that she was way too young to transition as we had really bad nightwakings and early morning wakeups and she was extremely tired all the time. I would say do all you can to hold on to 2 naps for now. Try also for an am nap (even if she is not showing tired signs). I let mine lead the way for a while but then I just started putting her to sleep at her usual nap times except that I would limit her am nap and it worked really well.

Laura - Isabella was about 15 months when she finally made the transition so maybe try for the 1nap at around noon and see how it goes. I had to move her bedtime to 6.30 though since she started napping once a day.

Sherry - how's everything going?

the trouble we have is the PM nap rather than the am one. if i get her down for an am nap she won't go down for a pm nap. the last three days she's had 2 hours in the middle of the day and been great overnight. and in fact been waking later than usual at about 7.30-8 am compared to the 6 am wakeups we've had since she was tiny. i don't think she ought to be switching this early either but she seems to be more settled if she has???

Hi there,

The week went by so fast; I have been meaning to check in with you ladies.

Day 8 and 9

I kept Daniel up until 11:45am with lots of entertainment and playing, gave him a quick lunch and then put him to bed at noon.  Oddly enough, the nap never went beyond 90min even though he seemed quite tired, then I would put him to bed at 6:45-7:00pm.

Day 10 and 11

We tried going back to 2 naps.  9:30 – 10:00 and then 2:30 – 4:00.  This works a lot better and he seems happier in the evening.  It is sometimes hard to put him down as early as 9:30, but we try (we had to take a car ride today to get him down).  Limiting his AM nap has worked well, and the night waking have disappeared (keep your fingers crossed!)  We really can’t let him go over 30 min in the AM.  Otherwise, he'll cry and resist nap 2.  Besides 2 naps fits his EASY schedule a little better :-)

Day 12

Wake: 6:30am
Nap 1: 9:45-10:15am
Nap 2: 2:15-4:15pm
Bedtime: 8:30 (I know it is late… but we had a dinner… I am hoping he may get up a little later tomorrow am)

Thanks again for all the great support.
Sherry

Yay Sherry!!! ;D.
I am so happy that you have found a happy medium with the 2 naps for your lo. It makes it so much easier and limiting it to 30 mins was the last thing we did before finally she transitioned. About a month (from memory) of doing 30mins in the am and having a decent pm nap, she stopped wanting to sleep in the morning and finally transitioned. I am also really happy about the night waking dissapearing. I used to get so stressed about the night wakings... I hated seeing my dd so misserable.

Let us know how everything goes
Layla

well for the last week we've been on 1 nap straight after lunch for 2-2.5 hours.  no night wakings, and waking LATER in the mornings - 7-8am as opposed to 6-6.30am. so though I do agree it would seem rosie should be too young to transition, she's doing pretty well with it.

i spoke to my mum earlier and she said that I was definitely already on one nap a day by my first birthday so maybe she's taking after me??? :)

Hey Sherry,
glad its gone so well: we've done the exact same thing here, and her pm nap is getting longer by the day, and the early mornings have all but disappeared! teething still a problem so we get the occasional glitch, but generally:

7am wake up
930 or10 nap for 30 minutes only. any longer at all and that's it! she's even happy when I wake her now  :)
1230 lunch
2 snack
230 (or as soon as poss after snack) nap
often till after 4! and she's doing that wake up but settle herself back to sleep thing she hasn't done for ages.
5.30/6 dinner
7 bed

I 'm aware this is transitional: as the pm nap gets longer I can see her needing it at 130 pretty soon, and I guess she'll drop the am sleep... having said that I won't miss it any more now that its only half an hour it doesn't give me that break I'd got used to!
Anyhow, glad it worked for you too!

Hi there,

I am not sure if I should start a new thread or keep this one going… but here is my dilemma.

DS had been fluctuating between 1-2 naps for a few weeks now.  When he is home with me, I will put him down for 2 naps, one at around 9:30 for 30 min, and another around 2, for 90 minutes.  However, when he’s at my mother’s – i.e. weekdays - she’ll put him down for only one nap, at around 11:00 for 1-2 hours.  Now… for about a week now, we’ve been going through a period of early wakings.

Normally, at night, he sleeps from 7pm to 6:30am.  However, recently, he’s been consistently getting up at 5:45am.  I don’t really mind the time, since this is when I generally get up… but I am wondering why the sudden change?  When I breastfeed him when he wakes, he sometimes falls asleep under the breast.  When I remove the breast, then he wakes up a little annoyed and groggy.

Should I try W2S?  What could be causing this?

Thank you,
Sherry

Sherry, waking up early and still cranky is usually a sign of overtiredness. Any reason why she can't put him down for 2 naps like you? Usually on the days when my lo had 1 nap (especially if it started around 11 and only went for an hour), then I used to put her bed earlier for the night. So instead of 7pm bedtime, I would bring it forward anywhere b/n 6 and 6.30pm.
