Help needed for a first time mother!
« on: December 12, 2006, 08:11:06 am »
Hi

My son is 17 months and was breastfed for a year and then started havign a morning and evening bottle. What I want to know is, now that he eats three meals a day and snacks, how long do i keep giving him milk in the morning? Its not really causing a problem as such, he drinks 7 ounces then has half a weetabix and a banana an hour later but I dont want to be holding him back if you see what I mean!??? He takes the milk from a cup too.

Id appreciate any info as I cannot find anything about milk past the one year mark in any of the books.

Thanks
Sherilee

Hi Sherilee,

At this age, they still need about a pint of milk 500mls a day.  This does not have to include just milk but can be a variety of things like milk in cereal, yogurts, cheeses, custards etc.

My DS is also 17 months old and he still has 2 bottles a day 1 of 8oz in the morning - he never usually finishes this one, so I just add the milk to his 1 1/2 Weetabix he has - usually get around 5 oz of milk in there, and then has a 8oz bottle in the evening.

He is not a big fan of cheese, so usually has between 2-3 yogurts a day.

Hope this helps.
