Question about feeding in the morning
« on: December 14, 2006, 13:56:44 pm »
My 4 month old daughter is now sleeping until 6-6:30 a.m.!!!!  My question is, if her wake up time is 8 a.m., do I feed her again at 8 a.m. or would I wait until she's hungry, which would be closer to 10-10:30 a.m.?  I know for EASY routine, you're supposed to feed them when they wake up for the day, so this is where I'm confused...  Any input would be appreciated.

Yvonne welcome to the boards  :D

The best way to do it is to chose a start time (wake up time) for your routine, then feed then or half hour after.

For example if you want your start/wake up time to be 8am, your feed at 8am (between then and 8.30),
any feeds prior to this are night feeds and you should try and get your LO back to sleep.  This means a small night feed and full feed at 8am or a full night feed and topup at 8am.

In your case because your LO is in bed for 6pm, there is little change they will go back to sleep.  So you have to decide if you want to leave as is 6pm to 630am or move the day forward so your LO is in bed later and waking later i.e 8am to 7.30pm

Hope that made sense.

Thanks for the information.  I guess I wasn't clear in my first post.  My 4 month old is on 4 hour EASY routine.  I put her to bed at 7 p.m. and she wakes up between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.  (one time she woke at 7:10 a.m.!!!)  When she wakes for a feed at 6 a.m., I put her back to bed and she sleeps until I wake her at 8 a.m.  Maybe I should make her wake up time 7 a.m.???  Thanks for clearing up the feeding question.  If I change her wake up time to 7 a.m. and I fed her at 6 a.m. (she takes 20 minutes, so the end of feeding would be around 6:20 or 6:30 a.m.), would I just put her back to bed and wake her at 7 a.m. and try to feed again?  Just want to make sure I have this right...  Thanks again.

By the way...  I love the Baby Whisperer way of life.  I started my daughter on EASY in the hospital and have continued with it.  It sure makes life easier.  I even successfully got her off her pacifier a week ago when we realized she was using it as a prop.  The first day was hard, but was great after that.  Tracey's books have really helped my husband and I understand our little one.  I'm so happy!!!!

Yes, this is the case. It doesn't last forever and it lets your LO know that 6am feed is a small night feed and wake and full feed are at 7am (or your wake up time).
