Nearly 8 months (corrected) wondering if need to increase A time
« on: December 22, 2006, 15:39:39 pm »
Hi, DD is nearly 8 mths corrected age. As of a week ago her EASY loked like this :

0700 wake, feed 8 oz
0815 solids
0930 sleep (90 mins)
1100 wake, and milk 8oz
1230 solids
1.45 sleep (90 mins)
3.15 wake, milk 8oz
6.00 milk 8oz followed by bath and top up
6.15-6.30 sleep (sleeps through the night until 7 or so)

However. Things have chnaged. We are actually on holiday in the UK and have travelled across 8 time \zones. She is actually doing remarkably well. She is still sleeping well at tnight, and her first nap is good. However, her afternoon nap she wakes at 45 mins. I'm not sure if it's a function of the time difference, or was her awake time too short.

So, wondering, should i be increasing her awake time at all?

Thanks

Daughter : Lara (31 July 2009)

Hey Leanne:

I would...that is what sounds like is happening!  I would only increase the A time before the second nap..maybe by a few mins (5min).  Don't do too much or she will get overtired.

A 30minute nap seems to indicate overtiredness.
A 40 minute nap can also indicate overtiredness.
A 45 minute nap usually means they are done....especially if she is waking happy and can make it the whole way thru her next A time.

These aren't any hard rules...just what i seem to notice.

I hope your visit in the UK is going well!

Hi, how early was she?  I ask as it took my two a long time to adjust to a longer A time. They are 18 months old and still having 2 naps a day!

hi

I agree with Sami but a good question from Woopster too ;)

but just like Sami says, don't make this A time too long. if you do, she may not go down for you for that nap at all. I know my dd is like that and for example today she did 7 !!!! hrs of activity [with maybe 1 hr rest in her crib, but no, she wasn't sleeping... :( ] only because I put her for her second nap 30 min too late...

good luck and keep us posted

I totally agree with what Sami said.  If you think she can handle a little bit of extra A time, I would try increasing it by about 5 minutes every few days and see how she copes.

Definitely watch out for overtiredness.

How are you enjoying your time in the UK?  That is fantastic news that she has adjusted so well to the different time zones.

Keep us posted on how you are getting on.

I thought for First Nap I'd make it shorter (say an hour). Because at night she is sleeping nearly 13 hours! And if she does 1h30m for nap 1 and then second nap she probably won't be very tired at all. Today for first nap she did 50mins. Will see how Nap2 goes. I read somewhere that at this age babies need 14-15 hours sleep (so maybe she is getting too much at night, not that i'm complaining!

I am amazed how she's done so well adjusting to 8 hours time difference. And it's all due to being on EASY. My inlaws are SO impressed with her. She goes to bed 6-630pm and that gives us the whole evening to relax, enjoy dinner and a bottle of wine with my DHs parents.

Its bloomin' cold here!!! But Mira is doing well (QWoopster - she was 5 wks early). I find that her last awake time she can do around 3h15m.

Its all going well, and xmas eve we drive down somewhere else for 5 nights. ANOTHER blessing is our travel tent. So it's the same thing she sleeps in, and it can be a different room, but because we keep her routine the same, and she ends up in the same bed/tent she is happy. It's from Nomad, expensive, but its so good. Plus it's a side opening so if I need to do pupd with her, it's easy to slide her out of the side and not break my back lifitng her out from the top!

Thanks for all those replies btw, esp as it's so close to xmas  ;)

Thanks ladies!

Alisandara,

That is fantastic news that things are going so well.

That tent sounds amazing, wish we had had one when we were travelling.

I hear ya on how cold it is here.  My sister has travelled to the UK from South Africa to spend Christmas with us, and it is the middle of summer there - she cannot believe how cold it is here  :o

Hope you had a great christmas.
