This seems to be working for us (so far)
« on: January 01, 2007, 14:36:02 pm »
Our 9mo DS recently (last couple weeks) started refusing solids, except for a few fruits. Apparently, we aren't the only ones having this problem. We tried something yesterday that seemed to work, although it may be specific to him...

For Christmas, my dad took us all out to an Italian restaurant, and DS very happily munched on the (very garlicky) breadsticks, as well as eating some of my lasagna. 2 days ago, I offered him plain black beans as finger food... seemed to like them before, but wouldn't eat more than one. YESTERDAY, I warmed them in the microwave with a little garlic, cumin and a pinch of sea salt. He gobbled them down. For dinner, we were having steak, baked potato & broccoli w/cheese sauce... so I made up a divided bowl for him, of baked potato chunks (with a little butter & pinch of sea salt) and broccoli w/cheese sauce & a pinch of garlic. Below is the result.. he got a surprising amount in his mouth!

So I'm thinking that, since he's had a few seasoned foods (and I ate a lot of highly seasoned food while pregnant), maybe he's just tired of the bland foods we've been trying to feed him. I'm going to experiment with more seasonings over the next few days...

That's very interesting!  I wonder if there is a connection between seasoned foods and bland food refusal!

Must take Jacob to try Cashew Chicken from local Thai restaurant as I ate it at least 1x per week during pregnancy!  (It was the only thing I could keep down some days...)

Ds has never liked bland foods, well neither do I, so I suppose that makes sense.

He also likes garlic - I'm afraid I put garlic in most things I cook, so he'd better ;) :).

Ds's favourite dish is a baby version of spag bol which has onion and garlic in it.
