hi Deb

if she's on 4hrs routine why are you feeding her [bf] every two hours ???
and if you're feeding her at night too, I wouldn't rather expect she stops those night wakings as she must be feeling like she's 'awarded' for waking with you feeding her IMO.

could you actually post your routine?

hi

sorry being tired is sending me mad.  I meant to post I feed every 4 hours!

here is her plan

e 7am bf, solids 8am
s 9-9.30am  1-1.1/2 hours
e 11am bf, solids 12 pm
s 1pm 1to 2 hours
e 2.30/3pm bf
e solids 4pm
s 5pm nap 30 mins
e 7pm-8pm
bed 7.30 - 8pm

wakes at 10/11pm ( did DF but now she is always awake)

try not too bf again until 2.30am  but she is often awake and diffiucult to get back to sleep, than sometimes only sleeps 10 mins. she can be om/off all the time until I feed her.  When I have fed her she will sometimes sleep for 2 hours.

in the day and at bed time she goes in cot awake and settles herself.  In the night I also put her down awake but she will not settle or wakes up screaming a short time later.  she does try to get to sleep (bangs legs)

unsure what to do??  months ago she was sleeping 8pm until 1am

also baby is now 6 months

HM, CAN SHE BE GOING THROUGH A GROWTH SPURT? AND THAT'S WHY WAKING UP AT NIGHT? HER DAILY ROUTINE LOOKS REALLY GOOD. WHEN DID YOU QUIT DF? AND DID YOU UP HER DAILY FOOD INTAKE THEN?

CAN SHE ALSO BE TEETHING? I KNOW MY DD ONLY WAKES AT NIGHT UNHAPPY [OR USED TOO, NOW I GIVE HER PANADOL- THAT'S A PAIN RELIEF THING, LIKE TYLENOL- EVERY EVENING AFTER BATH AND IT HELPS HER WHEN SHE'S TEETHING] WHEN TEETHING.

IF YOU ELIMINATE HUNGER AND TEETHING, MAYBE YOU COULD TRY PU/PD WITH HER?

hi

thank you for your reply.

I did not stop the df she justs wakes up at the time now!

she is eating lots of solids in the day now and I think she is bf well (cannot tell amount)  It could be a growth spurt or teething but I do put a teething gel on when she wakes up.

how can I tell if it is a growth spurt??  (she is waking up all hours, is that a sign)   If it is a growth spurt should I always feed her when she wakes up or is that than a prop,?? sorry confused.

thank deb

AT 6 MONTHS SHE CAN SURELY BE GOING THROUGH A GROWTH SPURT. IF SHE'S TAKING A FULL FEED EACH TIME SHE WAKES AT NIGHT AND YOU FEED HER THAT'S A GOOD SIGN. AND IF SHE'S WAKING AT DIFFERENT TIMES AT NIGHT THAT ALSO CAN INDICATE A GROWTH SPURT.

FOR DF, I'D TRY QUITTING IT ACTUALLY. OR REDUCING THE AMOUNT. OR BRINGING IT EARLIER. SOMETIMES BABIES DO GET USED TO IT AND START WAKING AT A SET TIME WATING FOR A FEED SO IF YOU WOULD MOVE IT BACK HALF AN HOUR OR SO SHE WOULDN'T WAKE UP FOR IT.

thank you again

I feel I should feed her at night too as she always takes a full feed and trying to settle her does not work.   I will try a df early tonight manybe 5.45pm and see what that does.

Should I bf more often in the day, or increase solids??

Deb,
6mo. is a crazy month.... many milestones + some babies start to drop their catnap. This is something I read in Markc Weissbluth's book. The best bedtime for babies is 6:00-7:00pm. 7:30-8:00pm bedtime is quite late. Later when your LO drops her catnap, you need to move the bedtime way way early, because  your LO won't handle long wake time. Would you like to move the bedtime 30 min. earlier and see. Even your LO is really napping well.... better than my LO, night waking might show that she cannot handle 7:30-8:00pm bedtime and she is overtired. Another possibility is that she might be teething.

good advice there, litomi :) I agree with bedtime and a very 'busy' month observations.

Deb, as for her eating. you can try giving her more solids and see how she reacts. if it helps her sleep and doesn't affect her breast feeding, that's great. but I would also try to ask on breast feeding board  :-*

Would you like to try 7:00 bedtime and see how it goes? Have you started solid yet?

hi

yes baby is on solids, 3 meals a day plus breast feeds about 6 feeds.

does an earlier bedtime really work?

I will give it a try
