Transitioned to 4 hour EASY, now lo waking at night
« on: January 24, 2007, 20:14:58 pm »
My dd is a week shy of 4 months old and we have been transitioning her to 4 hour EASY over the past month. She used to sleep through the night, waking at 5:30am to eat. Since we started transitioning her, she started waking earlier and earlier due to hunger, to the point where she woke up at 2:30am, and I did sh/pat on and off until 3, when she made it clear that she was hungry. I've done the steps from the BW books to increase my milk supply and she seems to be taking full feeds during the day. She is making it the 4 hours between feeds without any problem and she is taking good naps during the day too. At first I thought the change in night sleeping patterns was due to a growth spurt, but it's been a couple of weeks now, and I'm pretty sure that growth spurts don't last that long. She is a bigger baby (15lbs) and has gained 3 lbs in the last 6 weeks. Anybody have any thoughts on what might be going on?

She might be having a growth spurt which often needs a night feed for a short time.

Do growth spurts last for 2 weeks? She has been waking to eat earlier and earlier for the past two weeks.

If it's a big spurt they can last a while, but longer than 2 weeks is probably not that then. If she's taking a full feed though then she definitely needs it.

Thank heavens, last night she woke at 2:30 and seemed pretty upset about something, so I went in and stuck her hand in her mouth... she fell right back to sleep and slept until 4:30. That's better... hopefully this growth spurt is finished. DD was grumpy and crying for a long time last night (usually she is so good) and I think she might be teething. She's been drooling a lot and her cheeks have been pretty pink on and off this week. It's never just one thing, is it!
