Can't decipher baby's different cries! Help!
« on: February 14, 2007, 02:57:32 am »
I am having a really tough time figuring out the different cries from my 3 1/2 month old, i have just barely started learning about easy and I can't seem to tell sometimes what she needs.  Do babies start to lose the differences between cries as they get older?  Are there actual differences in the sounds they make with thier mouths?  I hope my question isn't too vague... HELP!! ???

Apparently they do start losing the different cries by about 3 or 4 months and earlier if their cries have not been recognised and responded to correctly. I have failed to recognise the cries in both my kids and found out about the Baby Listener too late. If you haven't already heard about Priscilla Dunstan the Baby Listener, here's the link to an article explaining her findings...

and another link for her website...

My sister is finding it so useful with her newborn and I'm even hearing babies cry in the shops and thinking, "hmmm, that baby's got lower wind pain".

Dangit!  I wish I had known sooner!  Oh well, I will definitely use her for the next baby!  Thanks for the links!  I have a brand new niece, I will send them over to her mommy!

One of the great things about using the EASY routine is that it helps you to figure out what baby needs when.  If you follow the routine, you can have an "educated guess" as to what the cries mean if you haven't deciphered them all yet.    :)
