To Amby or not to Amby?
« on: January 17, 2007, 17:11:27 pm »
Hi All,

I'm new around here and have found some very useful information thus far!  My LO has slept in the swing or with us for 4 months now, and occasionally his Amby Hammock.  He has rarely if ever slept in his crib.  We are working on lots of issues right now (reflux - beginning meds today, constant nursing day & night, night wakings, going to sleep nursing, etc) but I am still torn over whether my goal should be to get him sleeping in the Amby or just skip the Amby and jump right to the crib.

I would say definitely crib to avoid the future transition, but just now he fell asleep with almost no help in the Amby.  Just about 1 minute of bouncing after he had been in there talking to himself for some time.

What do you think?  Should I worry about the Amby to crib transition when he's a bit older because he seems to be taking to the amby now or should I just go straight to the crib?

Thanks,
Margo

Oh definitely, I am not really "working" on anything other than the schedule and taking care of the reflux right now.  We are starting meds and if they work, we will space feedings out and see how just these two things affect his sleep.

But I'm just thinking that if the meds work and he is happy in the crib once he's asleep, but not able to fall asleep on his own because it is just not cozy enough, should I work on getting him over the "non-cozy" issue or just wait until later when he outgrows the Amby.

I am leaning toward using the Amby now and working him into the crib when he's a bit older, but I guess I just need to hear that it won't be terrible to transition him later, and that i'm not ruining him for life, lol.  The ped made a comment today to the effect of "we'll have him sleeping in a crib like every normal american baby" so I guess that makes me second guess my using the Amby.  But now that I write this, I think that perhaps I should not need any outside input anyhow ;D.  Even from the pediatrician. But I still do.  Funny.

HI, I'm new to this website and was just having a browse (I too am having sleep issues with bubs) and read with interest your post about the Amby.  I spent an hour and a half reading their website and have talked to two other mums and they all say the same thing - transition to a cot will be normal and easy, and when baby wants to make the change (e.g. showing frustration at being in the Amby).  Thought that might help a little but the topic is covered in the Amby website FAQs.  I'm expecting delivery of my Amby today - very excited!!!

Hiya!

Mateo slept in an Amby for the first four months, then once our routine plan was in check, we transitioned him to his crib. It went as well as it could. I mean, one to two days of Shh/Pat, and PU/PD and we are now at 14 months and all is good!

Good luck,
Nay
