just when we had things down....
« on: February 04, 2007, 23:36:19 pm »
they seem to change!  Everyone told me this would happen.  Our babies are 15 1/2 wks old (8 1/2 wks adjusted age since they were preemies) and they had been doing SO well on EASY.  But yesterday and today, their naps have been getting shorter.  I watch for their sleep cues during awake time and they still seem to be getting drowsy after about 1 1/2 hrs average of activity.  If I try to get them to go longer, they get cranky.  So I'll take them up to their cribs and they still fall asleep pretty well.  But they are waking anywhere from 25-45 minutes.  Grr!  Sometimes they can be settled with a paci or a shh/pat.  But sometimes I just bring them back downstairs and let them sit quietly in their swings.  Sometimes they even drift off in the swings.  Is this the best thing to do?  When I can't get them settled should I just assume that they aren't tired any more?  But if they're cranky, that means they didn't get enough sleep right?  What should I do?  Are they getting to the age where they just don't need to sleep for as long of stretches?  Thanks,
Laney

Three.  I nurse them and I think maybe if I did formula they could be on 4 hr... but of course I don't want to stop nursing for that!  I have been wondering though how to maybe just TRY a 4 hr.... I was going to do some research to see how people on this board have done it.Laney

I would stick to 3hr EASY at the moment. Perhaps they are going down to late for nap time have you just recently extended their awake time to 1.5hrs?

No if they are napping well on the previous awake time leave it.
If it isn't broke then don't fix it

Hello, I have a 4 Month old Preemie (34 weeks) he is doing very well but I'm always concerned about his development in the future. I know I should just be thankfull for this little miracle and a Happy Baby will always be good at what he does, but has anyone had any experience with older kids and teenagers that were preemies?? (I read Albert Einstein was a preemie so tha'ts a relief, jajaj)  ???
