11.5 month old refusing naps - ? separation anxiety?
« on: February 14, 2007, 12:39:13 pm »
Hi,
My routine with my son is just out of control.  He does not like to nap and it now has escalated out of control.  He used to take two really good naps, a longer one in the morning and about 30-40 min in the afternoon.  He then started refusing to nap in the afternoon so I decided instead of making his morning nap shorter, I would try and switch him to one nap a day at noon, as his daycare provider would be doing when I go back to work Feb 19.  We tried it out for two weeks and he just seemed very tired and grumpy but he did end up having four teeth coming in within that two week period.  Last week he had the last tooth coming through and seemed tired so I started putting him down for a short am nap and long nap in pm which was great and he went down great and seemed much happier.  (he was waking at 530 am when the teeth were coming in and he now sleeps until 6 or 7)  Since all of the teeth have come in, he is more wakeful and refusing to nap period.  He absolutly screams bloody murder when I put him in the crib.  I used to put him in the crib and he may just go to sleep or he may grumble a little and fall to sleep - I have never rocked him or anything to sleep.  Sometimes I will read him a book to wind him down and look for yawns and things and put him in.  He has been going for half days until noon to daycare once a day for the last three weeks and she says he is fine and the first two times he slept in the morning there with no problem but yesterday he had slept in and she said he didn't need a nap in the morning.  I thought he would fall asleep in the car on the way home at noon but he didn't.  When I got home I tried several times to put him for a nap without success and he didn't take one nap yesterday.  At one point I rocked him in the chair for a bit and he started to get really sleepy and fall asleep on my shoulder and when I went to put him in the crib, he screamed and I ended up taking him out.
What could this be and what do I do?  He cried for such a long time yesterday and I kept going in and reassuring him and lying him back down but he would not go to sleep.  He must have been exhausted?  He seems to go to bed okay and does not wake in the night at all.

Could you post your routine? Sounds like her is getting overtired and not able to go to sleep.
