Crazy sleep issues suddenly for my 20 mo
« on: February 22, 2007, 19:39:55 pm »
So this is a new one:  my dd has been waking up for the past week or two at ungodly hours in the morning, chatting and playing, etc...She isn't crying or doesn't seem to be in distress.  It just seems as if she wants to play.  For the most part, I haven't gone in and she ends up falling asleep after about an HOUR of playing.   Last night she woke up at 12:30 am, chatting and playing.  As usual, I pretty much ignored it until I saw the clock that read 2:30am!  I finally went in and rocked her to sleep.  She finally fell asleep at 3:30am!  Not sure what is going on and equally unsure as to how to handle it?  I am getting no sleep either!  I am not sure if I should completely ignore her since she isn't in distress and I should just fall back asleep counting on the fact that she will eventually fall asleep?  OR do I keep goign in and rocking her to sleep?  I feel like that would be a prop.  Also, should I remove the crib toy that she plays with when she wakes up?  It makes music when she pushes a button so I am not sure if that is keeping her awake at times. UGH!  I feel like I am living with a newborn again. I am getting NO sleep here! Please help!!

THanks so much in advance!

I agree with Stacy--if she's not upset, you probably don't need to go in.  Ds is king of the naptime crib parties, and he's had the occassional night party, too.  He used to have a panda that jingled.  That and any other noisy toys have been banned from the crib because it kept me up at night.  Now he has several quiet stuffed toys and blankets to play with.  If I hear ds playing in the middle of the night, I just go back to sleep because I know I'll hear him if he really needs me.

I agree that if she's not crying, you let her be but I would take away the noisy toy and just leave soft toys. What does her day look like? I find that my dd wakes up at night and is up for long time when she's overtired or sleeping too much during the day. What does her day look like?

My dd used to pull this when she was super overtired from transitioning down to one nap.  any changes in her schedule?  Absent any changes I would try putting her down early for a couple of days to see if that helps.
