My little Marc-Adam is 4 months old today. I've been trying to lengthen his routine cycles to 3.5 hours for a few weeks now, but he just doesn't seem to be doing well with it. And I can't tell if it's because he's not ready or if I'm just not giving it enough time to work. Most of the time, his cycles are about 3 hours with one 2.5 hour cycle a day. Sometimes he can go 3.25 to 3.5 hours, but if he does that more than one time a day, he's up more at night.
He used to sleep really well at night only waking once to eat sometime between 2 and 6am. Then he hit a growth spurt and started waking a couple times a night. Once that was over he was only doing well every other night. Then I started trying to lengthen his cycles and now he's waking 2-3 times a night (sometimes more, up to 6 times). On the nights that I've tried lengthening his cycle, he's up more and earlier.
So is this a sign he's not ready or am I being too impatient with the process? My older boys went to a 4 hour routine almost overnight with no problems, so I have no experience with this. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
