Average age for toddler bed...
« on: March 02, 2007, 18:39:19 pm »
I was just wondering what the average age is that you moved your toddler from a crib to a bed. I just had a 19 month checkup and he said now is about the time and to just put a twin mattress on the floor for him. He also said he would be much more comfortable (he is 36 1/2 inches and seems to jam his head to the bars and sleep like that so in the am he has a dent in his head!)  So, he says he is ready for it, problem is I dont think I am. Should I wait until he shows sings of attemtping getting out or should I do it sooner so he doesnt hurt himself. Just wondering what everyone thought....Thanks!

If he is sleeping through the night just fine and does not attempt to escape..then I would leave him in his crib for now.

Ds was only 18 months and 32 inches tall when we transitioned him because he kept climbing out.  :o :o

Age does not really matter.  Your DS IS tall, however, if he is content in the crib, then I would leave him be.

HTH!  :)

My ds is 2 next week  :o and over 3 feet tall and I am in NO hurry to move him out of the crib, even though I am pregnant.  His parent educator even said leave him in as long as he is willing/doesn't attempt to get out.  The older they are when you transition them, the more likely they are to have less problems.  They'll all (or almost all  ;)) have problems adjusting, I'm sure, but apparently the older ones will have a shorter time of problems.  This is rambling, but wanted to encourage you to follow ds's lead and not move to the bed just b/c ped. said you should.   :)

i agree with pp's - if your ds shows no signs of getting out of the crib, and you don't need the crib for another child, go ahead & leave him in there!  :)

We just moved Harry about six weeks ago, he never tried to climb out really and was happy in there. We had no problems then with the move.
