My 17 month old has been waking up approx. 1 hour after I put him to bed at night. Bedtime is around 7:30. I give him some time to work it out on his own, but when he starts to really call for me I go in and lay him down and walk out. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 times of doing this, but after that he falls back to sleep. Often, he will then wake up another hour or so after that. I do the same thing to settle him down and then he sleeps through the night until around 6:30 am.
He's been doing this for the last couple of months and honestly, I wonder if I should just enjoy the fact that he's sleeping through the night and just deal with this little bit of waking, which happens before I even go to bed myself. It took a long time to get him to this point. He used to wake up frequently at night and would be up for 2 to 3 hours at a time, so in comparison, our current situation is not that bad. But it does mean that I don't get a good uninterupted evening for myself and my DH.
Am I expecting too much or is this a problem that is easily fixed?
I did try a little bit of W2S. Our floor boards are kind of creaky, so I walked by his room 30 minutes after I put him to bed last night and made a bit of noise. He didn't wake up after the first hour of sleep, but did end up waking up after the second hour. I would do W2S for the second hour, but I'm not exactly sure when I should do it.
Any thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks!
