Breastfeeding and Dreamfeed Question?
« on: March 06, 2007, 20:23:46 pm »
I can't seem to get my 10 day old son to take a dreamfeed while asleep unless I pump and give him the bottle.  I need to wake him up enough to get him to suck effectively when breastfeeding.  I know this is not what is suggested.  I did the bottle last night just as the book suggested (slide it in around 11:00p.m. after he's been asleep since around 8:45p.m).  He took some, but I don't think a full feeds worth.  He was then up at midnight (4 hours since 8p.m. feed), 3:40a.m. and 6:45a.m. (every 3 hours).  I have him on a 2 1/2-3 hour easy schedule.  Any suggestions?

Hi Zacsmom! Congratulations on your baby boy!!

As for the dreamfeed.....it's really tricky when BF and I personally would pump and give it to my ds with a bottle.  And at 10 days he will still need to nurse about every 3 hours, so it's not a problem  ;)

He may also have night and day confused, so my recommendation (which worked great for us) is this : Keep night as loooooow key as possible. Make no eye or vocal contact with him, just shhhhh to get him back to sleep. Don't turn on the light, I used to keep a night light in the closet so I could see just enough to not trip on my way to the bassinette.
