Hi I dont know if anyone has come across my problem with their little one, but my 4 wk old is getting worse at sleeping and he seems to look scared when we go into the bedroom (its already dark in there) he seems to look at the wardrobes (which are dark) with his eyes wide open, hes become very fussy only sleeping 40 mins or so and fussing threw his sleep and i have to go back and to in there when he cries and do shush pat which is taking ages.  he also is only going 1 1/2 hrs to 2 hrs between feeds (other mums say this is fine athis age) but he was born bony at 9 lb 10 oz andnow weighs over 11 lb and sometimes i feel he is hungry on his cow and gate comfort as he wakes up hungry and i can not pacify him at all!will he gradually get better and make less of a fuss when put to sleep as im finding it so hard work and dread putting him to sleep due to the amount of work involved (considering iv been doing it for 4 wks and hes getting worse) thats why i though maybe he would like his room better as lighter etc help !!!!!

Hi nenee!  Keep in mind at this age they don't really have true fears of things like the dark or wardrobes, etc.  It is just possible he is startling from you coming in the room, however.

Just to share my personal story, our dd was waking every 2.5-3hrs at night and we had her in our room.  She was such a noisy sleeper that we decided to move her to her own room at 5weeks.  The first night we did that she slept 5hrs twice in a row...so it turned out I was misinterpreting all her sleeping noises at night and thinking she was waking and hungry, it turned out she was just being noisy.

But yes, some babies are hungry every few hours at this age even at night.  If he is truly hungry, you need to go ahead and feed him.

HTH!  :)

4-6 weeks is a fussy age, don't worry, it will get better soon! We moved dd to her own room at 5 weeks and I agree with nursekat, it does help them to sleep because you are not picking them up at every sniffle. However night feedings are much easier when they are in your room! When I am shuffling to her room at 3 a.m. I do sometimes miss having her in our room, but overall I am glad we made the move. I also think it's probably easier on babe the earlier you do it. When they're older and more aware of surroundings the transition could be harder.

We moved DD at 6 weeks cause her sleep was getting worse. My goodness its been so long since then LOL
She slept better when we moved her to her own room. I found that I wasn't waking to every little noise (we never used a monitor, figured if she needed use we'ed hear her as the room was right next door) she slept better because I wasn't jumping at every noise and waking her thinking she was awake and hungry. She suddenly dropped from 3 feeds to 1 and eventually none. You may have 1-2 feedings for a while all LO's are different, you may find that he sleeps longer and better and drops feeds faster.

The key is to find what works for you and your LO and stick with it.

At this age I say go for what is more comfortable and what works for you. At that age we had dd in a bassinet in our room (up until she was 6 months, then we switched to her crib in her room) because it was easier for me to bf her as I didn't want to get up, go down the hall, haha! I did find she slept better at that age if she was wrapped well in her blanket vs. arms and legs loose. Babies of this age really have no "fears" but can easily be overstimulated by visuals and noise, it's normal for them to be fussy and to wake for feeds throughout the night.
