When to switch bottle and solids around?
« on: February 23, 2007, 00:16:51 am »
DD is 7.5 months and I am wondering when do you know to switch solids first, then bottle later?  Right now, she is bottle first.  I was thinking of slowly starting to switch it around when she is 8.5 months or later.

When did you switch and how did you know to do so?

Here is some info from the FAQ section of the board, with some sample routines of how most people approach it at a certain age.

At your lo's age, milk is still the number one source of nutrition. As she gets older, solids will gradually become more important in her diet. So some people start to switch around to encourage them to take in more solids at each feeding. Ask your paed for recommendations as well. As long as your lo is taking in the recommended amount of formula each day, it probably doesn't matter how and when she gets it. There is info about this on the FAQ board as well.

For now, you are best to stick to milk first, solids second. How is your lo progressing on solids?

My LO is 9 months and am wondering if I should switch solids and formula around...as somedays he will eat solids willingly and other days he won't (maybe teething).  My Dr. said that their milk is the most important thing in the first year...so I am afraid to cut that out and drop bottles when he may not be ready.

How is your lo progressing on solids?

Thanks... I wonder  how I missed that link!  LO is doing really well on solids.  She takes 8 oz and then an hour later will take 2-3 cubes of solids.  I noticed the FAQ mentioned 9-11 months down to 3 bottles... I'm wondering is that mostly LOs that will be initiating dropping a bottle or is that something I should consider helping her drop around that time frame?

Thanks
Wei

I noticed with my LO that he wasn;t as interested in his second bottle.  Usually when he wakes (6-7) he has a 6 oz bottle...I've tried and tried to give him his cereal an hour or hour 1/2 later but he won't take it....so when he wakes up from his nap at 9:30 he eats his cereal...then at around 10:30 or 11 I give him a bit of water and then lunch and bottle before nap.  Guess he is still full from his cereal....but the few ounces he was taking at 10:30 or 11...I put it in his cereal.  He still has 4 bottles though...another one at 1:00, 4 and then before bed 7-8.  I wouldn't push the whole dropping bottle thing
