30 mins nap....HELP!!!
« on: March 25, 2007, 19:01:09 pm »
Hi all.I was looking through some of the posts and came across one where a 6month old was suddenly having terrible naps.It said that around this time babies start to extend their A time.Could this be whats happening to my dd.She has always been a fantastic sleeper until 1 week ago.She has a cold which doesn't help but i cant understand why she suddenly thinks its play time when i put her into her cot and then starts to cry when i make her sleep. When she finally does drop off she wakes up after 30 mins, chatting again.

Pleaseeeeee someone help.

Hi this is here typical routine up until a week ago.

She is a text book baby so it was...

6:30 wake/bottle
8:30 Nap(1 to 1.5hrs)
10:30 fruit/bottle
12:30 Nap(1hr)
2:30 veg/botttle
4:15 catnap (30mins)
6:00 bath
6:30 bottle and cuddles till bed by 7.

She usually sleeps through till 6:45-7:00 until the naps turned bad now she has started waking around 3:30 and chats for up to an hour.

Hi Stacey.dd got up at 7am this morning so i waited till 9:20,toke her up to her room, swaddled her, sand some lullabies but her down and hey presto, within minutes she was asleep.Brilliant,no crying at all.

Then, she woke after 30 mins, chatting away to herself.I left her till she got fed up,went in but she had no interest in going back to sleep.I brought her downstairs and she played happily.I gave her food at 10:45 and she was still happy and smiling. At 12:30 she got a bit grumpy so i toke her to bed.She was a little overtired but it only toke me minutes go get her off to sleep.

Should i be working on extending her naps or leave her only having 30mins if she stays happy.

If she's always been a good napper then chances are once you hit on the right amount of A time she will start to nap longer again.
If you've never needed to extend her naps before and she is used to falling asleep independently then it may have the reverse effect as your presence may stop her from going to sleep as she'll be confused as to why you are there and want to play. Does this make sense?

Hya,Yep this does make sense.Actually she has been asleep for an hour so far so he is already improving. It is such a relief as i have a 22 month old ds too so i don't have the time to stay with her in her room.

Thank goodness for this site.I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown ;D
