Naps suddenly gone to 40 mins
« on: March 29, 2007, 21:40:07 pm »
Hello all,

I have an 8 week old (corrected age) who's naps have just suddenly gone to 40 mins. He's on 3hr easy and had always been fairly easy to put down. But he now screams when going down for sleeps and wakes every 40 mins. He stays awake for about 40-50mins tops before yawning and getting grizzly, sometimes only 20 to 30 mins. I had heaps of probs with this with my first and I want to try to deal with it before it becomes a real issue (as it did with her!). BTW his night sleeps are quite good (knock on wood!). TIA - any help is appreciated at this stage.

Aidan's routine is approx as follows:

6am bf
6.30 sleep (he's only awake long enough for a feed then nappy change)
9.30 bf
10.15-10.30 sleep
12.30 bf
1.15-1.30 sleep
3.30 bf
5.00 catnap (pretty long activity time here as this is when he would normally take a bath with his sister - generally he is overtired and it takes us awhile to put him back to sleep)
5.40-6.00 awakens
6.30 bf
7-8 put down for the night
12.00am bf
3.00-3.30am bf
6.00-6.30 bf
then the day starts again

Shush/pat doesn't seem to work for him (it did wonders for my first) so we have him in the bassinet part of a portacot which we swing to settle him. We've been trying to be vigilant and stop the swinging when he settles so that he could fall asleep on his own. A couple of times though when he'd been overtired and hard to settle I must admit I just swung him to sleep. Do you think maybe it's become a prop?
