From pat/ssh to independent sleep
« on: March 26, 2007, 14:30:33 pm »
My DD is 3 months old and we started out with not sleeping in the crib at all for naps. Now thanks to pat/ssh she falls asleep after app. 10 minutes of pat/ssh.

In the past couple days we seem to have a problem. She usually doesn't cry when I put her down in the crib, just hangs out then starts fussing and then she starts crying. This time I go in and start pat/ssh, but it seems to annoy her, this morning I had to let the ssh part go and just did the pat and she fell asleep. It seems to me that she doesn't really need pat/ssh anymore, but still doesn't know how to fall asleep on her own. She has a lovie, a little rag doll and she holds it and sucks on it, but that is still not enough.

Her naps are only about 25-30 minute long and Stacy told me she might be overtired when I put her down. This morning I started the winding down after about 1 hour awake time after the first yawn.

Is there something I can do to help her through this?

Thanks

Sure. Here it is:

W - 7.15
E - 7.20
A
S - 9.00 - 9.30
E - 9.45
A
S - 11.00 - 11.30
E-11.45
A
S - 1.30 - 3.00 This nap is usually in the stroller while we are out on a walk.
E - 3.00
A
E - 5.00 after this feeding she takes a catnap
6.45 - bath
7.00 - last feeding
7.30 - sleeping

She wakes up once a night somewhere around 4-5am.

As you can see, I am not following EASY religiously, just as an outline for the day. Sleeping times are always different, because I am trying to act on the first yawn or not let her be up for more than two hours.

I think Stacy is right you are putting her down to late at this age you need to aim for about 1.5hr awake time.
