naps timing
« on: March 30, 2007, 21:19:42 pm »
Hello!
I have a question about 5 mnths old naps. As I seem to fail understanding my baby's new tiredness cues, can someone please give me a general idea when is the best time to wind her down for a first, second and third nap. She generally wakes up at 9am, and before a short while was only active up to an hour before her first nap. Now it seems she is not tired after two hours!
thanks!

At that age, my LO's awake time was 2 hours-- you could set your watch to it!  He was taking 45 minute naps for most naps, though, (that's another story!)

Hi Laura - if she's starting her day at 9am, then you want to aim at something like this:

9am - wake for the day
11am - nap 1 (1-1.5hrs)
3pm - nap 2 (1.5-2hrs)
7pm - catnap (45mins)
9ish - bedtime

The general A time for a 5mo is 2-2.5hrs. The morning A time is usually the shortest so aim at winddown 20mins before the end of A time and have her in the cot at the start of those nap times...
