Hi there, my DD is almost 3.75 months old has the good old problem of waking every 45 minutes during her day naps, usually this happens without fail. She has a dummy to fall asleep and then I remove it around 5-10 minutes after she goes....She does do her mantra cry starting around 40-45 minutes and I think I have made the mistake early on of going in too early and either replugging dummy (then remove it again after 5-10 minutes) or doing ssh/pat to get her back to sleep. I look forward to when she is old enough to possibly plug her own dummy in! ;D

I know that the mantra crying just ends up in tears, I think this is because she always expects someone to go to her  ??? When I do leave her she is trying to get to her fists to suck something but it does not soothe her like the dummy so she just gets frustrated and crys more so I usually go in early because I know how its going to end up...a little thing I did not realise early on...

I am looking into trying the w2s to try to extend her naps but I should I just leave her in her mantra cry even though I know she won't resettle? How long should I let her continue this cry and does it get shorter if I keep doing it?

Thanks, look forward to anyones advice! :) :)

Hi there

My DD does the same thing, so I cannot advise much.  I try plugging the dummy back in and she just pulls a YUK face and will not go to sleep again.  5 Mins later she is rubbing her eyes so I have to trot her back up to bed!  Just want you to know you ain't alone at all!  Hopefully someone can come up with some advice and give me and you some time to do other things!

How long do you wait before you go back in to ressetle? Have you tried using Shh/Patt to resettle?

Hi Natasha,

I don't usually go past 5 minutes if that, like I said I generally go early (before she even starts crying) because I know how its going to end up which I know is bad! I figure if I get in early then she won't waste 20 minutes of her sleep time trying to get back to sleep. I know I have helped create this...lessons learnt for next one :)! Yes I do use ssh/pat, I try that first (works most times) and if that does not work I give her back her paci to get her off to sleep again. I am always helping her get back to sleep and she usually goes back to sleep for another 40-45 minutes until the next sleep cycle....

How is she ever going to learn to resettle herself if I do ssh/pat to get her back to sleep? Should I only be doing it until she calms down or should I do ssh/pat until she is almost asleep..not sure about how long, I don't want to create the prop of her needing me to do this always! KWIM.........Her mantra crys don't sound like crys that she is trying to get back to sleep, her eyes are wide open and she usually wants and is looking for something to suck? Not sure what to do!

Have not tried the w2s yet? I just want her to able to sleep through this cycle, we would both be much happier! She is always yawning when she gets up!

Thanks so much, look forward to hearing your reply
