instant wake ups

Lately my DS startles himself when I place him into the crib.  I walk out of the room but he starts to fuss.  If I let him be he usually calms down, but will lay there for hours if I let him.  If I go in an encourage him to sleep he begins to cry.  If I pick him up and walk him bit he will settle and begin to close his eyes again.  Once I put him back in the crib he will start the whole thing again and usually start crying.  I don't know what to do.  He needs at least 3 one hour naps a day and we are far from it.

First how old he is?
What is your current routine?
And do you use paci or swaddle for him?

He is 11 weeks old.  I use a paci for sleeping and yesterday I started to swaddle his legs.  It helped a little, but he still woke up in about 10-20 minutes.  When I fed him after that he fell asleep on the boob.  I put him down for his first nap of the day around 9:45-10:00 ish.  He wakes up around 8-8:30.

Is there is reason you wont swaddle his hands too? Could it be that joins are waking him and at this case full swaddle would help.

I haven't been swaddling his hands because I wanted him to be able to suck his thumb if the paci fell out.  I actually just tried swaddling the hands too.  Let's see if it works.  He's been down for 4 minutes.

He stayed asleep, but woke up at the 25 minute mark.  He ended up doing that for every nap yesterday and he would break out of the swaddle.  Today I swaddled him in one of those swaddle-me wraps with the Velcro so he couldn't breakout of it.  I went in at 20 min into his nap and stood over him to help him through the REM sleep cycle.  It worked!  He is now an hour and 42 minutes into his nap!  I don't know if it will be a permanent fix but I am really excited.   What do you think?

Really great news.  :)
I would say keep this up and hopefully it was thing he needed.
And don't worry about thumb shooting thing. Mine never took paci and does not care about thumb either, less work later.
