suddenly taking ages to get to sleep
« on: April 21, 2007, 19:07:58 pm »
hello again! well things were going really well recently and T's naps have finally improved to 2hrs +  HURRAH! BUT last few nights its taken hima a very long time to get to sleep....do u think the long nap os the culprit?
He now wakes about 6.30 - 7.00
Naps around 12.30/12.45 to 2.45/3.15
Bedtime 7.30
For example today he slept from 12.45 to 3.30 as he'd been swimming and was exhausted, took him over 1 hr to get to sleep :o
Do u reckon he needs more A time before bed , shorter nap? Any suggestions?

PS hes now 18 mos

I wake Alex from her nap at 2.30pm as I know that she will be awake until 10 otherwise.  She still takes up to an hour to get to sleep anyway, but I don't need to go to her, I jsut let her play until she drops off.
Do you need to be there or does he just play and go to sleep eventually?  Does he sleep throught the night?  If it's yes to both, then don't worry.

Well it's just that its so unlike him, he's been so good recently. And he's visible tired, it seems he just keeps catching himself when he's about to fall asleep. 1 hr is with me there, it would be much miuch longer if I werent there! He has also been wakign earlier so maybe he does need to go down for his nap a tad earlier and woken up after 2 hrs? He used to wake 7 and go down 12.30 but these days we keep being late and he's goign down 12.45ish after havign woken 6.30. I wouldnt mind it taking him so long if he were waking later in the am too but its stille early which means hes effectively getting less sleep at night hence more in nap time??
I will try to wake him today as we are going to see friends this afternoon anyway.

We have had some "interesting" bedtimes with Woo this past week or so.

I think part of it is because I have been feeling so stressed lately and he is picking up on it a bit, but I am mainly blaming it on the fact that he is suddenly beginning to be interested in learning words, he's making a wider range of sounds and is trying to use more words. These milestones always mess with their sleep don't they. He is so excited about being able to make new sounds and wanitng to learn new words that he doesnt want to go to sleep in bed.. just keep talking!

Is Thomas starting to learn new words???

H xx

And hugs to you too xxxx

He doesnt have to be practising the words at bedtime.. but the new experience during the day will have hus brain buzzing so that he finds it hard to settle.

Hope he soon starts to settle better xxx
