To darken or not to darken.....
« on: April 26, 2007, 16:23:40 pm »
We have a great sleeper now (after 13 months and hiring The Lullaby Lady), but I want an opinion from you wonderful gals....we have just installed securtiy shutters in my sons room hoping to adjust his clock a little to get him to wake up later-we live on a small little fake lake which has a lot of noisy birds and his room faces East-so, I wanted to block all the light so at the crack of dawn he isn't ready to get up.

But, what about naps?  These shutters make his room pitch black, you can't tell if it is day or night outside.  Do  you think it will confuse him to be so dark during the day?  The blinds do allow to "crack" them open and adjust the light.

Any input would be appreciated.

We have room darkening shades on both our lo's rooms and they have always seemed to help them nap better. I haven't had a problem with sleeping too long.  JMHO!  Erin

I say yes- my LO def. falls asleep easier in a darkened room, even for naps.  He never sleeps past 2 hrs no matter how dark it is during the day.

depends on how long I want lo to nap- we have recently gone to 1 nap so now yes definitely I pull the blackout blind down behind the curtains as I want her to have a nice long nap and anything that minimises potential disturbances can only help!
Prior to that we were doing 30 mins in the morning, so I never bothered with the blind for that, and 90 mins in the afternoon, and I only bothered for that nap if it was a really sunny day.
