Not sure if this is OK!
« on: April 25, 2007, 09:11:40 am »
I wonder if I can pick your brains please.  I've re-started the EASY routine and am aiming towards a 4 hour, but at the moment am slowly building up the time between feeds so it's a 3.15 routine iykwim.  I put Sam down for a sleep at 8.30 and he took 5 mins to nod off (I used shush pat) but he woke 30 minutes later.  Now I am very tired atm and fell asleep on the bed and was dimly aware that he was awake and babbling etc but didn't get up to try to get him to sleep some more.  He kept going and I fed him at 9.45 as planned (he woke at 6.30 this morning).

After feeding him, I took him up to change his nappy etc when he just fell asleep on our bed.  I've covered him over and just left him but is this OK?  Should I wake him and try to keep him awake until his next nap time of 11.45?  Sorry if silly question, but I just feel he needs all the sleep he can get because he's been so rubbish at it these last few weeks.  However, I don't want to disrupt the routine I'm trying to establish.

Thanks!

Ali

UPDATE:  He only slept for 30 mins - do I still try to put him down at 11.45 or wait until 12.15?  Gosh this is a complicated business but I know it's very worthwhile!!!

hi

yes, it is complicated!!!! but so fun when you finally achieve your goals!

I'd say do waht you can to 'redirect' him into your planned routine but don't worry if he naps not when he's supposed to. if it's not feeding to sleep it will do him no harm.

30 minute naps may indicate overtiredness- are you sure he's ready for 2hrs A time in the morning?

I'm keeping a close eye on him, and if I feel he's ready for a sleep before being up for 2 hours I'm taking him up to bed.  Had my first experience of PU/PD at the last nap as shush/pat just wasn't working - took 20 mins PU/PD and only got 35 mins sleep, but a step in the right direction.  He's the king of short naps and I'm doing all I can to correct it (and keep my sanity -never easy!)  Also doing proper wind down (into Grobag, book, lullaby poor chap!!) before putting him down which probably helps - I'm going to try to keep more to the routine.

I'm looking forward to the fun bit I have to say!
