DF question
« on: May 01, 2007, 04:34:33 am »
My son is almost 8 months and is having solids 3 times a day and BF 4 times + DF.  lately his DF have gotten shorter and shorter but he has been waking between 3-5 and will not take a paci or anything and will only go to sleep if I feed him.  I don't think he is all that hungary because he eats a lot during the day.  I am wondering if giving him the DF could be causing the early waking?  maybe I am feeding him to much and I shoudl dropt he DF.  I looked everywhere and I can't find a place it says the signs of dropping the dream feed.  any advice?  he is teething also but I don't think this is the problem always as he wakes.

Is he eating a lot of solids now at each meal, Melissa?

Sometimes if they eat too much, they are too full in the day to bf as much as they need, and may wake at night needing to nurse instead. We never did the dream feed, so I can't offer an opinion there. And then at that age, Riley was often too much of a busybody during the day to feed well, and would wake at night instead to nurse. I *think* I read in the BW book that after a certain age the df can disrupt sleep, but I may have imagined that!

Is he feeding enthusiastically at night time when he wakes?

I would consider dropping the df and see where that leads you.  It may be disrupting his sleep cycle and causing the waking later on.

He is having about 4 tablespoons of food at each meal.  in the morning he has a new fruit or veg. 1-2 T and rice 2 T.  then he has 4 cubes of fruit or veg for lunch and dinner and each cube is about a T of food.  sometimes he finishes it all sometimes not.   He has been nursing shorter during the day and refuses to eat anymore so I just take what I can.  I think that is partially relted to the teething though.  but he will nurse well sometimes and not others at other times.  I was reading in the 3rd book about dropping it.  I have considered it for a few weeks because of the less eating time.  so I may just do it and see what happens.  Is he eating to much solids?  he is enthusiastic for about 5-10 min and then he is done.  normally his night feeds and df are 20-30 min. so it is a lot shorter.
