In as much as a 3 week old can have a "routine", my Ben has decided that he really doesn't want to "wake up" until about 4:30pm. He doesn't have his days/nights mixed up, he just sleeps a large portion of the day in addition to overnight. I don't recall my other two LOs sleeping this much, even in the early days! Sometimes we'll get a few minutes of wake time in the 8 or 9am hour, but generally he wakes up to nurse every 2 1/2 to 3 hours throughout the day and goes right back to sleep. What are others' experiences with wake times in 3/4/5 week olds? Ben takes full feedings during the day but the wake time is negligible until late in the day. We are trying to incorporate the routine of eat, then wake/playtime, then sleep, but like I said, there really is no wake time to be had with him until late in the afternoon. He easily goes into his crib during the day, and stays there for solid 2 hour naps. I'm not doing shush/pat b/c he goes down fine. The evening is a different story. We'll spend 4 hours cluster feeding and fussing (he has some reflux) from 6pm-10pm (thereby robbing me of being able to do a dream feed) before he finally finishes his last feed and goes down for "bed" (3-4 hours, then feed, then sleeps another 3 hours/feed, then 2 1/2). I'd love to be able to "early up" his routine, and have that 4 hour stretch happen from, say, 3pm-7pm and put him down, do a dream feed at 10pm and continue on, but this kid really likes his sleep and I don't know how to go about altering it (I've been happy up to now that he's waking for full feedings and I'm getting 2 1/2 hour stretches out of him). Any suggestions? Thank you!
